Review:

The Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Ultra portable Laptop is light in weight (2.28lbs), thin (1.25in maximum thickness) and compact (9.13in x 6.77in). Being so small in size, there is no built in CD/DVD drive. It has features for easy upgradeability.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 9 portable laptop is powered by Intel Atom N270 processor with CPU cycle of 1.6GHz, L2 Cache memory of 512KB and a Front Side Bus (FSB) frequency of 533 MHz. The main memory is 1GB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM and the secondary storage is a 16GB solid state drive for the model reviewed here. The graphics processor is Intel integrated Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950 which is good enough for normal use but somewhat slow for games.

The ultra portable laptop has an LED screen with 8.9in diagonal length and a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. For networking, the laptop has Integrated 10/100 LAN (RJ45) card, Bluetooth Internal (2.0) mini-card, and 802.11g Wi-fi mini-card. For data transfer, the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 ultra portable laptop has 3 USB 2.0 ports and a 3 in 1 card reader. In addition there is also an integrated 1.3MP webcam. The laptop is powered by 4 cells 32WHr Li-Ion battery that lasts for about 4 hours under normal use and the OS is a choice between Windows XP SP3 and Linux Ubuntu 8.04. For a price of £299, Dell Inspiron Mini 9 laptop provides value for money.

“For an astonishing price, the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 provides great computing experience. It is highly portable but the hard drive is too small and won’t suit hard core gamers”

“The Dell mini has excellent design, easily upgradeable, compact and light in weight but somewhat small screen which persons with poor vision may find it hard”
